Last week's promotion of News Corp Australia national director of production and logistics Geoff Booth to the group executive team is "a reflection of the company's commitment to printed newspapers".

Chief executive Julian Clarke made the announcement as part of a raft of moves, most of which follow the resignation of executive group director Jerry Harris after 34 years with the company, and anticipate the arrival of incoming chief executive Peter Tonagh and executive chairman Michael Miller in August.

These included the appointment of Damian Eales as managing director of metro and regional publishing, with Nicholas Gray, chief executive of The Australian, now reporting directly to the chief executive instead of to Harris. A new position of managing director for community publishing has also been created.

Booth says he is "really excited" about the opportunity to join the executive team.

"My P&L team have done a tremendous amount of transformational change work over the last few years and I think the success with which that has been undertaken has been recognised," he told GXpress. "We have some important projects coming up including replacing some of our publishing equipment, and the decision to have closer executive oversight in this area is reflective of the company commitment to printed newspapers.

"Of course I'm also delighted to have broader responsibilities and a greater contribution to our overall company objectives."
