Another third-generation family member, Michael Hunkeler - who is six years the junior of chief executive Stefan - has joined the print finishing business.

Hunkeler (44) has been appointed to the board in what the company says is "a key element in the

family's succession planning" and its aim to remain remain independent and family-managed.

With longstanding executive management board members Erich Hodel (sales) and Hans Gut (marketing), he will take on overall responsibility for marketing and sales.

In key market segments such as digital newspaper print finishing, Hunkeler options have tended to be presented by inkjet web press manufacturers, but the company says the appointment will help strengthen its presence towards customers and partners.

Founded in 1922, the company is based in Wikon near Lucerne, Switzerland, with subsidiary companies in Germany, Italy and Hong Kong. It has 250 employees.
