American graphic arts vendors are looking to Asia for business, with trade group NPES planning trade missions to Jakarta and Mumbai in March.

With eyes on the print segment of the world's fourth-largest country, the US group is opening a business development office in the Indonesian capital, and will bring a trade mission on March 16-18.

It follows a mission to India, focussed on Mumbai, from March 14-15.

The programme for both includes market update briefings, site visits and networking receptions, as well as the opportunity to participate in an educational conference for printers from the Jakarta area.

NPES sees an opportunity to present US technology in the "strategically located" country with a population of 253 million and with publishing and packaging markets in "growth mode". The US Commercial Service currently ranks Indonesia fourth in its East Asian Pacific region for new-to-market export success of US SMEs, and second in the Southeast Asia region overall.

The NPES Indonesia office will offer customised services to members on lines similar to those in India, China and Latin America.

A colour management conference at the PoliMedia School in Jakarta (March 17) and the print business outlook conference at the Westin Mumbai Garden City in Mumbai (March 15) are the result of a cooperation with the International Color Consortium.

The Mumbai conference will focus on innovations and the rapidly changing technological landscape of the global print industry, with a full day of education and networking. it is being supported by All India Federation of Master Printers Association (AIFMP), Indian Printing Packaging & Allied Machinery Manufacturers' Association (IPAMA), and research association PRIMIR.

Again there is a strong emphasis on colour management - with contributions from William Li (Kodak), Phil Green (ICC), Elie Khoury (Alwan), Juergen Seitz (GMG) - but addresses on the future role of newspapers are also planned.
