Turkey’s largest newspaper publisher, Hürriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik – part of the Doğan Yayin Holding Group – has signed with Goss International to upgrade two existing Goss HT70 presses at its Doğan Printing Center in Istanbul using towers from a third.
The centre operates three HT70 presses, and two four-high towers and a two-high from one press will be added to the other two to enhance productivity.
A spokesperson for Doğan Yayin Holding says their daily titles need increased colour capacity: "The most logical and cost effective solution for us is to reconfigure the existing units from press number 1."
Dogan Printing Center currently prints ten daily titles seven days a week from its 17,000m² facility in Istanbul, including Hürriyet, Milliyet, Posta, Radikal, Referans and Fanatik, with a combined daily circulation of 2,250,000 copies.
New equipment to be supplied as part of the upgrade includes four unit-mounted turner bars, shaftless upgrades to the existing lower formers and outfeed and web tension systems to complement those already in operation. Adjustments will also be made to improve color registration from the existing equipment.
When the upgrade is completed both presses will consist of five four-high towers each with six reelstands and the ability to produce up to 48 broadsheet pages with 40 in full colour.
