More details are emerging of the enabling systems behind the pioneering Pressline 3V ‘triple-cut-off’ project at the ‘Columbus Dispatch’ in Ohio, USA.
The system converts existing TKS double-width presses to a shorter and slightly narrower page size, saving paper and making the newspaper easier to handle, while preserving section formats.
Nela-USA will supply plateroom automation as well as the lock-ups and filler bars needed for the for the project. Three VCP Vision punchbenders will be connected to a 32-bin sorting system, handling plates for various formats from 1066-1168 mm wide.
‘Select punching’ from data in a 2D barcode will avoid the need for multiple punch notches.
The press locks and patent-pending filler bars – which are machined and balanced – will enable existing press cylinders be used. The lock-up technology incorporates a series of combined leading and trailing positive roller clamps which combine easy loading with excellent clamping qualities
“We are excited to be part of this 3V compact format project that will offer newspapers throughout the world an alternative printing solution on existing two-around presses”, Nela director of sales says Jürgen Gruber says.
Harland Simon is reconfiguring its three-year-old the auto impositioning system to handle production with Pressline system.
The HS upgrade will maximise utilisation and flexibility of the new press configuration and radically reduce the learning curve
