ABB will supply its MPS control systems to bring the manroland Colorman e:line being installed at Allgaeuer Zeitungsverlag in line with the German publisher’s existing equipment.

The press at Kempten, Germany, will be the first with this system, and Allgaeuer Zeitungsverlag will update and extend its existing MPS press management system work with the new press. An MPS PlateWorkflow automatic plate production system is also being enhanced with fully-automatic plate sorting function.

The Swiss control systems maker says that with its MPS Cockpit, AZ will become the newest reference for ABB’s resource management and planning system. Existing page planning from Alpha and ABB’s insert management system will also be fully integrated.

Chief executive Markus Brehm says Allgaeuer Zeitungsverlag is “investing in our future”.

Technical director Wilfried Sutter says the upgrades will deliver necessary tools to further improve efficiency. “This will help us to ensure that we have a long and successful future in the newspaper printing business,” he says.

Commissioning of the new press begins later this year and all systems will be in full production by the start of 2013.
