First fruits of a new strategic partnership on retrifits between manroland web systems and ABB Switzerland  will be an update in Rochester, New York.

The companies believe that the deal agreed at DRUPA will give them a strong position in the future of the retrofit business. Modular solutions cover product planning, control consoles, press controls and reelstands.

At the Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester, the contract covers a 1996 Geoman press of three sections and 15 towers.

Dirk Schmidtbleicher, vice president of manroland’s pressupdate division, says the partnership is an ideal extension to its pressupdate and service businesses.

ABB Printing vice president Christian Villiger says the combination of industry-standard components and manroland knowhow will enable customers to boost their competitiveness.

“Our retrofit partnership is strategic and therefore on a long-term basis,” he says.

The retrofit order at Democrat & Chronicle will be a “good start”.

“We are grateful for the customer’s trust in us and together we will justify it.”
