Four APN print sites shared six of the nine gold awards presented for newspaper printing at last night’s NZ Pride in Print awards in Wellington.

And in the magazine category, PMP also scored well, taking four of the seven golds.

APN Print Ellerslie won gold for the New Zealand Herald 19/6/12, Hamilton News 30/11/12 and The Weekend Sun 15/6/12. Other winning APN Print entries were Rangitikei District Monitor (APN Wanganui), Bay of Plenty Times 30/5/12 (APN Tauranga) and Hawke's Bay Today 3/10/12 (APN Hastings). The Gisborne Herald won gold for Smiths City Mailer; and Horton Media for In the Garden and Nature Baby.

In the magazine category, PMP Print’s gold medals came from NZ House & Garden June, Inspire April/May, Canvas April 21 2012, and Simply You Summer 2012. Adprint won for Creative Wood - Spring No. 106, and Webstar for Littlies Magazine December 2012, and Taste Magazine #85.

Webstar Masterton also won a process award for web offset for the Warehouse Stationery Business Christmas Catalogue.

Print NZ Manager Ruth Cobb said the key strategic goal for the organisation was to ensure a strong and vibrant industry, and the awards were proof of that.

Among examples of brilliant innovation on show was that of supreme award winner Arria Design Group of Albany, North Shore, for a postcard including images on translucent plastic. Arria director Matt Foster is pictured on our homepage with his wife Adie.

The awards evening theme was ‘Print out loud’, emphasising the quality New Zealand companies can produce. It was compered by actress Miranda Harcourt and breakfast show comedian Paul Ego.
