manroland web systems is bringing its control systems subsidiary closer with the move of former head of product management and project engineering automation Manuel Kosok to grapho metronic.

The company has been part of manroland since 1992, delivering retrofit drive and control concepts and the InlineControl systems.

These include ink density control systems for commercial printing – with newspaper systems due for release in the northern spring of 2015 – and cut-off controls.

manroland says the grapho metronic system measures ink density with a single scan of the paper web. The systems – with LED-flash lighting – are now used on about 90 per cent of commercial press installations.

Two cut-off controls – one with a ‘dynamic’ option using the outboard section as a reference – cover cut-off register and folder guiding, the latter by an extra camera at the folder.

Reductions in waste after a reel change can be reduced by 30-80 per cent, and by 100 per cent after blanket washing even after mark recognition, the company says. Waste rates can also be reduced when speeding up or slowing down the press.

Kosok says many features show a ROI of less than one year: “We are also constantly developing our product range.

“At the moment, we are working on a new hardware platform for PECOM, which will be introduced this fall.”
