Fifteen Asia-Pacific and five Gulf publishing and printing companies are among the 76 accepted for this year’s WAN-Ifra International Newspaper Color Quality Club.

Nine of these – ABP, Express Publications (Madurai), Hindustan Media Venture, HT Media, Jagran Prakashan, Kasturi & Sons, Malayala Manorama Company, The Mathrubhumi Printing & Publishing Co and The Printers (Mysore) – come from India.

The others in the region are Apple Daily in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and Mediacorp Press and Singapore Press Holdings in southeast Asia, APN Print (NZ) in New Zealand and West Australian Newspapers in Australia.

From the Gulf region, the five accepted are Al Nisr Publishing, Masar Printing and Publishing and Galadari Printing & Publishing (Khaleej Times) in Dubai, Al Jarida in Kuwait and United Printing & Publishing in Abu Dhabi.

Companies from 26 countries have been granted membership of the quality scheme, held every two years for the past 20 years, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate colour printing excellence.

A total of 165 newspaper titles are produced by the new members.

“Results of the competition provide confirmation for the successful printing and publishing companies of their successful personnel motivation, correct choice of material, in-depth knowledge of the setting parameters for the entire workflow as well as their skilled use of measuring and control techniques,” says Manfred Werfel, deputy chief executive of WAN-Ifra.
