UK-based Polestar is buying both toner-based and inkjet Canon presses in a new order, saying it needs both technologies.

Polestar Applied Solutions – part of Polestar UK Print – has ordered one Océ ColorStream 3500 and four VarioStream 8650 digital web presses as an upgrade of its Nottingham site.

Managing director Geoff Mordt says the pigment-ink 3500 will increase capacity in colour critical mail applications. It already has a dye-based JetStream 2200 and VarioStream 9000s, the latter to be replaced by the new toner-based 8650 systems, selected for the technology’s “superior image quality”.

“While we feel that inkjet is the future for our business, it’s important to have both toner-based and inkjet technologies, assigning the right production line for the right application,” he says.

Canon will also supply PrismaProduction workflow software and “across the business” training in data processing, commercial and sales departments.
