New press controls systems for triple-round pioneer the Columbus Dispatch will recognise the folder format and set parameters accordingly.
Swiss specialist ABB is to install new controls on the four TKS M72 presses at the company’s print site in Columbus, Ohio, which prints a variety of high-profile contract work in addition to its own titles.
Columbus pioneered the use of a triple-round folder system which delivers a folded tabloid-sized product with the same section options as a broadsheet.
The order covers unit controls on all four of 12-unit TKS presses replacing obsolete TNPC controls and Magnum boards, with the work starting early next year.
ABB’s North American sales director Jeff Gelfand says that although TKS was now involved in placing of the order, a long business relationship may have been a contributing factor, following TKS retrofits at Dow Jones/The Wall Street Journal sites, the Dallas Morning News, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and others.
ABB is also involved in a project at the Charlotte Observer including solutions for a web width reduction and a CTP interface.
