New retrofittable printheads for HP's Inkjet Web presses will double native print resolution, the company says.

High definition nozzle architecture ups native print resolution of current HP inkjet printheads from 10,560 to 21,120 nozzles - delivering 2400 nozzles per inch - and supports dual-drop weight per colour.

A new quality mode prints at up to 122 metres per minute in colour with dual drop weight, or the architecture can be applied to print up to 244 metres per minute, still with "excellent print quality".

High-speed inkjet production solutions vice president and general manager Aurelio Maruggi says the technology enables press customers to address a broader range of applications. The technology will be incorporated into inkjet web platforms including the T200, T300 and T400 and those sold through resellers. Existing customers will be able to upgrade.

HP has also introduced a cloud-based inventory management system, the Smart Uptime Kit for the inkjet web presses.
