Third satellite eases Peruvian logistics

Peruvian newspaper publisher Grupo El Comercio is adding a third Goss Community to its press fleet as circulations rise.

The four-tower single-width press for a new facility in Arequipa in the country's south, will match existing satellites in Chiclayo (north) and Huancayo (central Peru).

The new print site will help Grupo El Comercio improve distribution and increase circulation of its El Comercio, Peru 21, Trome, Depor, Gestión, Ojo, Correo and El Bocón.

Prior to opening the Chiclayo and Huancayo, newspapers were all produced in Lima. "Distribution was becoming challenging with some products arriving late due to distance," says director Ignacio Prado. "Since 2007 we have opened two new facilities and the third can only further improve our market share in the region."

The press is currently being shipped. El Comercio has been a Goss customer for more than 15 years, having installed a Newsliner press in 1997, which is "still running well".

"We have also worked with Goss on major projects including a waste reduction programme and a colour capacity upgrade."

El Comercio is the oldest privately-owned newspaper in Peru, founded in 1839.
