EAE is to modernise its press systems at Costa Rican media company Grupo Nación.

Working with QI Press Controls and agent Print2Finish it will retrofit an 11-year-old KBA Comet newspaper press to which two heatset dryers have been added.

Besides dailies La Nación and La Teja, Grupo Nación also produces a weekly business newspaper and contract-prints nearly 40 local newspapers. Its printing capacity is also used for commercial work including shoppers, magazines, books and catalogues.

The retrofit will see hardware for the five EAE control console PCs and three Net PCs replaced, with upgrades to associated operating systems. Hardware and software for the EAE Print system -including Density for calculating the ink zone presets - will also be upgraded.

Operations manager Patricia Centeno says operating systems for several EAE solutions had been discontinued and support for them was no longer available.

The retrofit work is being undertaken in in August and September, with a further retrofit - of service and information systems and press controls - planned for next year.
