An enterprise-wide ‘software as a service’ hosted platform called MediaHarbor has been introduced by Digital Technology International. Hosted environments are provides for all DTI’s products including editorial, advertising, web publishing and circulation. The company says MediaHarbor will protect newspapers from a rapidly-changing market, delivering reduced overall costs without large up-front capital investment, as well as faster implementations and upgrades. Chief executive Don Oldham says the hosted solution will also make day-to-day hardware and systems maintenance a thing of the past: “Because of the extensive amount of ancillary solutions around core DTI applications, customers will be able to quickly adopt new solutions to their existing workflows. “Through economies of scale, MediaHarbor will contain or lower current operational costs and enable newspapers to adopt the new solutions they need to transform their business models,” he says. DTI says solutions and databases will be managed from a central, ‘always up’ location, which customers will access via a web browser. MediaHarbor is being configured as a ‘single tenant’ installation – with each customer managed from their own database applications, integrating third-party applications through its Liquid Media technology. • A new version 7 of DTI’s editorial, web publishing and advertising systems provides browser-based tools to unify print and web applications. It leverages technology including Adobe’s CS3 suite and supports standardised use of XML. Features include new object-oriented tools and greater use of CachéTM architecture.gx
