Popular Moscow evening newspaper ‘Vechernyaya Moskva’ has taken a flexible approach to production of its print and online editions, retooling its editorial and IT with cloud-based solutions.

The paper’s relaunch makes use of vjoon’s K4 in an implementation by partner Terem-Media.

All print and online departments now occupy a new, state-of-the-art newsroom and have been closely networked using K4, with all 150 editorial staff members working in the new publishing environment within three months.

Established in 1923, ‘Vechernyaya Moskva’ is one of the most widely read dailies in the metropolitan region with a circulation of 300,000 for daily editions and 1.15 million for the weekly.

Chief executive Alexander Cheksin says the system they opted for after a rigorous process “satisfies all our demands and is much more flexible and far less complicated” than others in terms of workflow and user handling.

The paper’s content focus is on topical online reporting. It uses web analytics to track page views and assess the success of its offerings, with topics that generate the most traffic over the day earmarked for the print edition.

K4 allows the online portal’s contents to be readily reused for other output channels, and can even port such content automatically. Editors track and view the current status of each article.
