Dramatic decals emphasise speed and colour for a heatset printer wanting to promote the capability of its new press.

CTP Printers Cape Town - one of the largest media and printing houses in South Africa - introduced its new manroland Lithoman with an event last month during which it printed short-run jobs continuously for 24 hours.

Runs of up to 5000 copies were produced end-to-end on the 32-page Lithoman IV which has the maker's DynaChange job-change facility and APL robot plate changing on its four double print units.

In the 24-hour production period, 488,185 copies - or 15,616,000 four-color A4 pages -were printed at an average speed of 36,806 cph, for which a new world record is claimed.

The production included 96 plate changes with an average make ready time of 4.34 minutes.

The press has a maximum production speed of 37,500 cylinder revolutions an hour. Equipment includes a 1:3:3 folder with two cross folds, a Contiweb splicer and Ecoset dryer with integrated cooler, plus manroland's ink and cut-off register, and ink density control systems.
