Newscycle says a new Drupal 8-based digital CMS has the flexibility of open source without the risk.

The company's Onset digital content management platform includes responsive plus modules, widgets and tools designed specifically for news media organisations. Built upon Drupal 8 technology, it supports tight Newscycle Content integration in a digital-first environment.

Chief technology officer Talin Bingham (pictured) says Onset was built with 95 unique Drupal modules designed specifically to meet the needs of a digital-first newsroom: "Onset allows journalists and editors to easily incorporate video, links and tagging as part of the storytelling process. Page designs, content and story assets can be quickly changed, including where and how they are displayed."

Director of product strategy Kelli Chmielorz says content management is a core competency at Newscycle: "With the Drupal 8 foundation, Onset has the flexibility of open source without the risk of open source. Newscycle brought our extensive industry knowledge into action building Onset, and we have an aggressive roadmap with ample resources to support the product and continue to enhance it."

Among key features are A/B headline testing, social media curation support and 'save favourites' allowing readers to save and multimedia content - as well as polls, photo galleries and comments - on profile pages.

A Twitter gadget with content curation tools for journalists enables them to manage hashtags for content categories and how the widget displays within articles.

The system is deployed in the Newscycle Cloud hosting environment, powered by Amazon Web Services. Early adopters are invited to contact Kelli Chmielorz
