It may be one of the largest private newspaper groups in the UK, but the Ferag inserting operation at North Wales Newspapers in Deeside would have to be one of the more modest the Swiss manufacturer has supplied. The installation – teamed with previously-installed UTR conveyor technology and MultiStack stackers – demonstrates Ferag’s ability to take on smaller inserting projects which were previously the realm of its rivals. Launched at IfraExpo 2008, the EasySert attracted the interest of of NWN operations director Huw Jones. “It was clear that for us, this solution would open up entirely new opportunities in the marketplace,” he says. The line delivers greater production stability and handles a wide range of inserts down to A6, enabling the company to process advertising add-ons such as CDs and DVDs. Integrated into the existing Ferag system, with direct transfer of the finished products to the stacker, the line allows three products to be inserted in one pass via JetFeeder hopper, while Ferag’s RollStream is used for precollecting. In principle, EasySert can be extended to a maximum of 40 hopper stations. With a new print centre in Flintshire, North Wales, the company publishes 12 daily, weekly and monthly newspaper titles plus contract work. • Pictured: The new Ferag kit goes in
