DCOS is upgrading a 2009 Goss Magnum at Tryck i Norrbotten in Luleå, Sweden.

The eight tower, single-folder press's Omnicon system, shaftless drive and QTI Multicam system will be replaced as part of a package, driven by increasing obsolescence of components and support.

The company also wants to improve waste efficiency and productivity.

DCOS sister company Amal Webline will also carry out a retrofit on two of the existing AR70A splicers.

Chief executive Leif Bergström says closed-loop density control is an essential part of the project. "We have very high expectations on it being the ROI driver on this whole investment," he says.

The press is unique in that it has a Goss Universal folder with single former board and three-sections ribbon split, all stitched.

Tryck i Norrbotten is a fully owned subsidiary of Norr Media, which is part of the NTM Media group, which publishes 33 newspapers produced at three printshops across Sweden.

Expansion of the group into northern Sweden with the acquisition of Norran newspaper and closure of its printing operation has also increased volume at Tryck i Norrbotten.

The project will be completed by the end of the year.
