A new e-paper app for readers of The Hindu will add options for existing subscribers and help the Indian daily expand its digital base.
The Hindu Group is using PageSuite’s Edition platform to launch new iOS and Android apps to offer readers another way to access a print replica of their daily editions.
The Edition platform is being used to offer readers an enhanced experience within an optimised native app. The group has two apps – across both the App Store and Google Play Store – for The Hindu e-Paper and The Hindu BusinessLine e-Paper – both of which are now available to download.
As well as the latest editions optimised for mobile devices, the apps also provide access to a 60-day archive of previous editions and a range of other reader-friendly features. Subscribers will be able to download editions for offline reading, bookmark articles to read later and share content via social media.
The apps currently include a free trial upon download, enabling readers to use them at no cost, for a limited time, before they are prompted to subscribe.
While ‘The Hindu e-Paper’ app comes with a selection of 11 editions, users of ‘The Hindu BusinessLine e-Paper’ app can choose from any of four available editions of the publication.
Head of digital media Pradeep Gairola says The Hindu has stayed relevant by continuously evolving and rediscovering itself across its 143-year long journey: “Our ePaper readers are very young, 65 per cent are below 35 and 80 per cent below 45 years of age.
“They expect nothing short of a great user experience when they consume an iconic newspaper like The Hindu, which is why we are raising the bar by providing a world-class reading experience with the launch of the ePaper apps with PageSuite.”
The Edition platform enables publishers to launch a print-replica edition, a digital-only edition or an article-flow edition from an existing PDF, or from feed-based content. Features include an integration with Firebase for analytics and push notifications.
The Hindu claims to be the fastest growing English-language daily in India, with 8.03 million readers. The group has more than 20 digital products and seven unique publications.
