After a redesign in 2019, independent northern Italian daily L’Adige has launched a new cloud-based CMS to manage its transformation and multichannel production.
The paper and its website – which has a spread of 40,000 print copies and two million unique web visitors a month – is using Atex Desk to manage multichannel production print and web.
The move takes advantage of synergy the Seta group’s newspapers in Trentino and Alto Adige, optimising and evolving the production system.
After the merger with Seta, publisher SIE started a process to create immediate synergy between all the titles in the group, optimising workflows and resources to make better use of group assets.
The Atex system offered a quick roll-out and is specifically designed to fulfill future needs. The project also includes a redesign of the L’Adige website redesign, https://ladige.it with a new layout designed by an internal work group that includes the masthead’s web editorial office and IT groups. Growing public demand for video and audio content prompted Seta to invest in a much richer site with video contributions – on-demand and live-streaming – integrated with other group media, and prompted a collaboration with Radio Dolomiti for radio content.
The Desk system enables editors and journalists to work transparently on web and print, providing for easy adoption of converged editorial organisations. The multi-title system also gives flexibility for further convergence of different media on group titles.
Housed in a private cloud, the system provides for rapid implementation of new editorial projects using managed services. Management of video and podcast content is integrated into the workflow thanks to a partnership with MainStreaming. Fluid models in Desk allow intuitive management of page design, starting from a baseline that can be adapted according to the available content.
With the new L’Adige editorial system and website live in March, editorial staff are creating 60 digital original stories a day with images and multimedia, giving greater visual relevance to news and depth of coverage that goes beyond the limits of print. Pageviews in the first two weeks of April increased 30 per cent on the same period of last year, from 4.68 million to 6.20 million.
