General manager of Fairfax Digital Jane Huxley has been appointed digital publisher for Fairfax’s new metro media division following the promotion of her boss, Jack Matthews to run the division as chief executive.

He responsibilities include leading product, mobile and online business strategies, as well as overseeing the technology, digital marketing, editorial and creative services divisions.

Matthews says Huxley was a “driving force”, responsible for the strong growth of the digital mastheads and development of leading mobile and custom advertising solutions.

“She is a natural fit to take on the digital publisher role,” he says.

The new metro media division combines print and online operations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra.

Fairfax has also announced the appointment of Brett Clegg as chief executive of the Financial Review Group. He is rejoining the company after less than a year with News Limited where he was deputy editor of ‘The Australian’.
