Paris-based print provider Interval has moved into the colour inkjet newspaper business with the installation of an Océ JetStream 1400 system.

The leading French direct marketing company – which specialises in direct mail and transpromo print and fulfillment services – will use the digital press to produce national and international newspapers alongside other work. Established more than 25 years ago, it has 300 employees and two print locations in the Paris region.

The colour press – the 100 metres/minute latest addition to the JetStream range – will go into production next month. It can produce up to 1400 36-page tabloid newspapers an hour.

The Aubervilliers print site at which it is being installed is close to downtown Paris and the Charles de Gaulle international airport. In addition to international newspapers, it will also produce national titles for the Paris market on the day of publication, addressing what has been an issue given France’s geography.

The press will print newspapers by night, filling day shifts with direct mail and transpromo work.

Managing director of Groupe Interval Gerard Pouzoulet says its introduction will be a major step in the group’s future development: “Our expansion into the digital newspaper market is another proof for the viability of digital inkjet technology for the newspaper industry,” he says.
