ABB sells APOS positioning into USA

Press drive and control systems developer ABB has scored a first US sale of its APOS positioning system.

The ‘Dallas Morning News’ in Plano, Texas, will install the technology on two press towers as part of an upgrade of its Wifag OF370. The publisher will also install ACSM1 drives for the towers and upgrade hardware and software on the five MPS control consoles in use.

Production vice president Bill May  says the company had identified areas of obsolescence on its press equipment which needed to be addressed for both the ‘Dallas Morning News’ publications and its commercial customers.

“ABB has consistently engineered alternative solutions to extend the life cycle of our TKS and Wifag presses,” he says.

The new systems will be commissioned in November.
