DCOS has upgraded CPC controls on two Heidelberg (Goss) M600 presses at KHL Printing in Singapore.

The largest privately owned print shop in the island state, KHL has 20 coldset, heatset and sheetfed, and is a market leader.

DCOS introduced a retrofit quality package optimised for the M600 last year, recognising the huge worldwide install base. “There is a need for a cost effective retrofit package for the CPC quality control system to extend the press life cycle,” says a spokesman.

The retrofit package upgrades the old CPC control system, increasing efficiency and quality while reducing waste and start-up time.

KHL plant manager Wilson Ho says the company took measures to future-proof their machines: “At the same time we needed to increase our efficiency and reduce waste”.

Both M600s at KHL Printing has been equipped with a new ink control system with CIP3 presetting, and one of the machines was upgraded with the DRCS closed loop register system.

A new operator control system in combination with ink presetting, closed loop register and possible closed loop colour makes M600 production more efficient and profitable. The DRCS closed loop register system is capable of reading an unsupported web and can be installed before the dryer, providing a very fast control loop for the colour-to-colour register.

Ho says the systems were installed in January: “The waste reduction was obvious immediately after the installation and now three months later we can make a conclusion that the waste reduction exceeded our expectations and our M600s are upgraded for many more years of operation”
