A new manroland Uniset press for NR1 Trykk in Norway will have CRC4 multifunction scanner technology from Swedish drive and control systems specialist DCOS Sweden installed.

The system, launched at DRUPA last month, will be integrated with PECOM controls system on the four-tower being installed in Biri later this year. It will print Norwegian dailies ‘Oppland Arbeiderblad’, ‘Ringerikes blad’, ‘østlendingen’ and ‘Avisa Hadeland’.

NR1 Trykk project director Olav Engum says it made sense to install one one closed-loop scanner that measured and corrected key quality criteria of colour-to-colour register, density, dot gain, fan-out and print defects.

The concept that uses densitometry instead of colour measurement, with a motorised profile bar enabling it to swipe the entire web width to pick up online data.  Collected inspection data also detects scumming and web wrinkles.

DCOS managing director Mattias Andersson says the CRC4 was developed for high-speed newspaper production, and uses high intensity LEDs for improved contrast. Compact design makes it possible to mount the scanner on an unsupported web between idle rollers.

Biri is one of eight coldset print sites operated by NR1 Trykk, which is owned by A-pressen, Norway’s second largest media group.
