Green print training starts again next month, with at least one Australian newspaper printer taking up the cause.
In the southern states, new programmes start on February 12, with regional member services manager Bruce Lowery spruiking it as “one of the most influential initiatives” in recent years.
Although one Queensland newspaper printer – Brisbane suburban printer Horton Media – has the scheme underway, no newspaper sites are among the 40 companies which have completed training in Victoria and Tasmania.
“Without exception, all have found that the resulting benefits have exceeded their expectations,” says Lowery.
In addition to meeting growing consumer demand for environmental credentialing, the programme gave them a competitive advantage in a market where printing companies found it hard to differentiate. Lowery says dramatically reducing energy consumption and wastage, as well significantly improving recycling rates were some of the many benefits achieved.
