UK commercial printer Polestar has signed a GBP50 million deal with Goss for six heatset presses.

The company will “replenish its web offset technology” with two 96-page presses, two 64-page and two 16-page.

Polestar chief executive Barry Hibbert says commitment through long term contracts enables the “significant investment”.

“This will be the largest single spend in print technology worldwide for some time.”

The two 96-page presses will share three advanced PCF-3 pinless folders, giving flexibility without reducing the maximum output capability.

The 64-page shortgrain presses – rated at 60,000 cph – will have SG-3 jaw folders and twin delivery. Balloon former sections and ribbon stitching heads will allow 16pp sections to be produced at upwards of 220,000 cph.

The presses will be equipped with ‘closed loop’ web monitoring and quality management technology, ensuring high output is matched by high quality.

Goss International chief executive Rick Nichols  says Goss is delighted with the order: “This agreement emphasises Goss’ position as the premier provider in our industry and recognizes our ability to meet the changing needs of customers.”
