Keen competition in the Brisbane print market saw Inprint and PMP vie for honours in the Queensland PICA awards, presented last weekend.
And while Inprint Brisbane took the only gold awarded for heatset web – or any web-offset category, for that matter – PMP were close on their heels with three silver medals and one bronze in the category.
In all a total of 126 medals were presented at Saturday’s event at the Sofitel Brisbane Central hotel. Printcraft was awarded the Judges Choice Award medal and Impressworks the Special Commendation Award.
Printing Industries state manager Neal McLary said a new cocktail-style function proved successful allowing more interaction between guests and greater focus on the presentations made via theatre-style seating: “It created a very relaxed environment where guests could be more social and take their time to chat and to examine the exhibition of entries,” he says.
An “excellent repertoire” from MCs Bruce Irwin – who was also chairman of the PICA judges – and comedian Scott Williams “kept the whole evening humming”.
In the Tasmanian PICA presentations, Fairfax Media’s Examiner Print Centre won the coldset web-offset category for Rural Wit & Wisdom, while Pure Bride Tasmania won the newspaper and magazine media for Pure Bride Magazine.
