March’s Australian Single Width Users Group will be ‘lean, green, safe and clean’ … and with its opening on Friday the 13th, it will need to be lucky, too.

But there are no suspicion of superstition in the invitation from president Bob Lockley: “Last year’s conference was a great success, and we expect nothing less this year”.

The event is being held at Albury’s convention and performing arts centre from March 13-16, with Norske Skog’s mill in the border city as host site. The mill produces 270,000 tonnes of newsprint a year, about half of that consumed in Australia.

The SWUG programme begins with a welcome function on Friday, and continues with conference sessions on Saturday and Sunday. A visit to the paper mill on Saturday afternoon will be followed by dinner an an historic property.

The annual presentation dinner is on Sunday evening will include technical awards and the announcement of this year’s SWUG-sponsored apprentice of the year. The conference closes on Monday with more sessions, lunch and the option of a visit to the Border Mail print centre.
