Italian printer Union Printing is to add a further Universal XL to existing Goss press facilities at Viterbo, just north of Rome.
High demand for the company’s services and in particular, high-quality coldset print is driving the decision. The press adds capacity for the growing GDO market – for ‘grande distribuzione organizzata’ – primarily of supermarket flyers and retail inserts.
The single-tower Universal XL will have a 578 mm cut-off and 1700 mm web width and be equipped with quarterfold.
Managing director Roberto Pepponi says the company has built on the success of its first XL, “so it was the natural next step for us to develop further with the technology and applications that have proven themselves so well.”
He says productivity of the existing press is vast, the print quality high, the cost of production is lower, “and most importantly, our customers are happy”.
Founded in 1974, Union Printing is a family-owned and operated company, dealing in commercial and semicommercial printing using a range of printing equipment. The original Universal XL installation was the first of its kind worldwide.
Its application of web offset technology enabled the company to join the Ecompany Prints project. As part of the project Union Printing has been able to consistently measure its carbon footprint, gaining SA 8000 certification.
