In contrast with the Australian event, awarded on the same night, there were medals aplenty for newspaper printers in New Zealand’s Print in Print competition.

Showpiece event of the $1.6 billion industry, the Pride in Print awards were presented at the Sky City Convention Centre in an event attended by 700 people.

Horton Media’s six-medal haul included Valley Voice Rural Lifestyle, Silo Theatre Season 2013, Platinum Sports Co, Corso De Fiori, NZ Aviation News, and the Howick & Pakuranga Times.

APN Print won gold for Chinese Herald 2/4/13, Freedom Farmers, Wairarapa Midweek, and Weekend Sun.

Fairfax Media’s two gold medals came from its Christchurch print site for The Timaru Herald and The Press.

In the magazines category, PMP Limited scored highly, its Enterprise Park site for NZ Women's Weekly, and Pride In Print, NZ House & Garden March, and NZ Gardener May (both for Fairfax); and from its Christchurch sites, Red Bulletin June, and Autocar October.Webstar Print won for NZ Life & Leisure, Taste Magazine, and Good Health. Other magazine winners Silverdale Printing for All Things Local; Crucial Colour for Audi Magazine; and Adprint for Creative Wood Winter 2013.

In the book category, Thames Publications was the publications category winner for the digitally-printed Texts From Brazil (pictured on our home page), while Wakefields Digital/Momento Photobooks was a process winner for Tony Fomison – 1971-1990.
