Two 96pp heatset presses which form part of a major installation at Polestar in Sheffield, UK, commissioned and in daily production.
The project to install the Sunday 5000 presses involved 1500 man days and the use of equipment and personnel from seven different countries. Some 66 overseas crossings and 202 truck journeys from the US and across Europe delivered equipment weighing 1371 tonnes, the heaviest of which was 43 tonnes.
There were 51 trailers, 38 containers and 38 oversize loads, with the press installation requiring 47 kilometres of cable which alone weighed ten tonnes.
Polestar are already running pages for the Radio Times and the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine supplement on the presses with others lined up.
A 60,000cph 64pp shortgrain press with SG-3 jaw folder and twin delivery is now being installed.
Polestar chief operating officer Peter Andreou says starting up the two presses was a “huge milestone”.
“It’s amazing to see how the press hall has transformed looking at the two presses now side-by-side,” he says.
