One-around plate cylinder conversions: We've done it says Nela

German plate handling specialist Nela has joined the ‘one around’ plating conversion debate with a reminder that it has worked with a number of Asian newspapers on the concept. Their system uses a lock-up and filler bar which is inserted in the existing cylinder. This weighs the same as the lock assembly on the other side, so as not to disturb the balance of the cylinder.

"We have considerable experience with the one-around application," Jürgen Gruber, Nela USA’s director of sales says. "We assisted about a dozen newspapers in Asia and Europe in their conversion and they are all happy with the results and especially the savings". The necessary bender conversion has also been undertaken on many occasions, and the company has provided benders in Asia where this plate configuration is fairly common.

The benefits include faster speed, more colour capacity and paper savings which result in a justifiable ROI. • Goss International has announced a 'three-around' conversion concept based on single plates and a new folder based on FPS technology.
