UPM in the pink... or salmon, yellow or orange

European paper maker UPM has "renewed" its coloured newsprint range as part of a move to a Finnish mill.

The company says the new Color range enables higher quality printed products with improved haptic properties. The grade is part of standard newsprint papers and is suitable for both coldset and heatset offset printing, combining low basis weight with high bulk.

Colour increases the awareness of a printed product: "The printed product, be it a whole newspaper, a section or an independent flyer, is distinguishable by its colour," says technical sales director Terry Parry.

The range is now produced at UPM Jämsä River Mills at Kaipola, Finland, and meets "highest sustainability standards", including EU Ecolabel and forest certifications FSC and PEFC. It also contains recycled fibre. Production has been transferred from UPM Chapelle, France.
