New INMA Global Media Awards categories for video, print advertising, native advertising, data analytics, consumer research, innovation and incubation "match the media environment of today".

Entries close on January 29 for the competition which rewards the best ideas to innovatively grow media companies' audience, revenue and brand. They will be presented at a ceremony at London's Victoria and Albert Museum at the end of the 2016 INMA World Congress on May 24.

The awards competition, established in 1937, covers six genres - energise brands; create new products; grow, engage, and monetise audiences; grow advertising revenue; develop customer insights; and instill innovation.

Executive director and chief executive Earl Wilkinson says they represent "our industry's best foot forward" in engaging with the changed media landscape: "How do we add new life to news brands? How do we stand out in the consumer's mind and the advertiser's mind in a crowded digital marketplace? How do we apply next-generation data analytics to the basics of the news business? How do we make the process of innovation central to how a media company operates? INMA aims to answer these questions with the Global Media Awards," he says.

New categories "unique to the media environment of today" suggested by members and approved by the association's board are:

Best Brand Awareness Campaign

Best Public Relations or Community Service Campaign

Best Use of an Event to Build a News Brand

Best New Print Product

Best Use of Mobile

For 2016, INMA expanded the number of categories in the Global Media Awards competition from 15 to 20, added regional "best of show" winners, and integrated key concepts from its popular Global Innovation Awards competition. New groupings see circulation and audience replaced by regional/local news brands and national/international news brands.

Entries are to be submitted online at www.inma.org/awards, where complete category descriptions, rules, judging criteria and other information is available.

The awards will be presented on Tuesday, May 24, at the conclusion of the 86th Annual INMA World Congress.
