Kodak has confirmed that it will have a single-engine version of its Versamark VL inkjet web press running at the PacPrint09 trade show which opens in Melbourne in just over ten days' time. The Versamark VL series - which prints in CMYK at 600 x 600 dpi at up to 150 metres/minute using a customisable resolution feature - was unveiled at DRUPA in Düsseldorf last May. Along with models based on Kodak's upcoming Stream technology - and rival offerings from companies including HP, Screen and Océ - the Versamark is seen as a prime contender for parts of the digital newspaper printing market. Typically , Kodak would pitch faster models with the lower ink laydown of 600 x 300 dpi for newspapers, but the 2200 would do the job in a mixed environment. Kodak's worldwide vice president, sales and marketing, for digital printing solutions, Kevin Joyce will be at the show. The VL2000 system has a 474 mm print width, and uses either water-based pigment or dye inks, with the potential of full variable data printing. On show in Melbourne will be a single print engine VL2000 version, but a duplex system (VL2200) with a second print engine is also available, as are faster VT and VX series models. The system is one of three digital printing solutions Kodak will show in Melbourne. The others - the NexPress the company developed with Heidelberg, and single-colour Digipress - are designed for sheet applications. Kodak will also showcase its Unified Workflow and computer-to-plate systems at PacPrint, including the small Magnus 400 II platesetter and recently-awarded Trendsetter NX flexo system. Plates and consumables, and Kodak's sustainability solutions are also among offerings featured.
