Voucher-based gateway to monetise content delivery

Indian developer Winjit Technologies says its ‘digital gateway’ product will monetise content delivery and provide opportunities for publishers.

Its appadda product – which enables content to be downloaded or streamed to mobile devices where internet is “unavailable or too expensive” – is being launched next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Co-founder Abhijit Junagade says his company has in mind developing countries where people have mobile devices, but internet access is limited or unstable: “In the developed world, it presents an opportunity for businesses to provide internet access and easily accessible digital content, including music, games, apps and films,” he says.

Content is purchased via vouchers sold at appadda enabled locations, such as shops, restaurants, hotels, on public transport and other public places. It is already in use on taxis in South Africa.

Apart from being a source of digital content, Junagade sees the product as a new distribution channel enabling app developers, publishers and other content providers to share and sell their products without previous connectivity barriers.
