German regional daily Hersbrucker Zeitung is moving from a Quark-based editorial system to red.web's Print Publisher and Atlas Asset Manager products.
In addition to transforming editorial, publisher Pfeiffer Verlag und Medienservice will use the Atlas DAM to update ageing archives.
The new relationship stems from a meeting at last year's World Publishing Expo. Chief editor Klaus Porta revealed red.web as their editorial preference at a kick-off workshop in Koblenz in June, and executive director Ursula Pfeiffer says the decision is based, "on the simple reason that we were persuaded by the concept that the software is being developed hand-in-hand with editorial teams.
"What also convinced us is that we can now manage without InDesign and will have an integrated archive system."
A Quark-based editorial system from Italy had been used very satisfactorily for 14 years, but IT manager Marc Büsen says interim solutions and workarounds has become necessary, including for posting stories to the website. The upgrade to a browser-based system will increase options for digital and printed products.
A customising workshop will see the Hersbrucker Zeitung team back in Koblenz in July, when training for the editorial team has also been arranged.
"For us, the project is a chance to set new ideas more easily into motion," says Pfeiffer.
Hersbrucker Zeitung has a print run of more than 8000, while the monthly Hersbrucker Schweiz has a circulation of 16,000 copies.
