Another 20-year-old press has been given a new lease of life and a promise of leading-edge technology.
In Karlstad, Sweden, Nya Wermlands-Tidningen - which has origins dating to 1837 - is investing in a Goss HT70 they installed in 1995. The seven-tower, three-folder press has installed DCOS' automatic inspection system, with provision to add closed-loop colour control.
NWT is one of Sweden´s largest local newspapers, and the Anders family which owns it also has interests in Norway including holdings in Schibsted and Polaris.
It produces 14 newspapers in Karlstad, along with inserts and preprints.
A strong belief in printed media has led to the investment, replacing an obsolete register control system, and provision for closed-loop density control as and as part of a future strategy. Chief executive Mats Muregård says the ROI is based on waste savings alone. "Our expectations have already been exceeded and we are well ahead of our target of waste savings," he says.
The order is DCOS' thirteenth for an inspection system in Sweden.
