The independently-owned ‘Beaudesert Times’ has become the second Australian newspaper to opt for the CMC wrapping system. The order placed with agent Mailpack for a CMC2000 system follows a successful installation at Fairfax Media’s ‘Canberra Times’ print site. Beaudesert Times Commercial Printers in Beaudesert, Queensland, will use the equipment to wrap the 5000-circulation paid-sale flagship and its 20,000-circulation free weekly stablemate the ‘Jimboomba Times’ as well as other work. Managing director Mark Hodson says the commercial printing arm of the business, which services a wider area with its print and bindery service, will now be able to add value and plastic wrap magazines and other advertising material to meet customer’s requirements. The CMC was selected because of its timesaving makeready features available and MailPack’s “technical support and reputation within the wrapping industry”. The CMC 2000 wraps items from postcard size to tabloid, and up to 40mm thick, at speeds up to 18,000 pieces an hour. MailPack managing director Michael Seale says the CMC 2000 is a “perfect fit” for Beaudesert Times in terms of budget, wrapping specification and layout: “Our second newspaper site with more to come, he says. A CMC installation at the ‘Canberra Times’ handles between 17,000-25,000 single-wrapped copies a night for direct and newsagent delivery. First published in 1908, the ‘Beaudesert Times’ is distributed throughout the Scenic Rim Shire, while the ‘Jimboomba Times’ goes into the fast-growing south west Logan City district.
