US specialist Prime UV is moving into the double-width arena with an installation on a Goss Uniliner 80 press for an undisclosed customer. Director Erich Midlik says the six-lamp system – addressing a 1680 mm wide web width – has been supplied to maker Goss International in Nantes, France, for integration into the double-width press. Based in Carol Stream, Illinois, Prime Systems has established a niche market for UV ink curing on single-width presses, with a broad installation base covering more than 100 four-high towers worldwide. The first Australian installation is on a Goss Community press at the ‘Bairnsdale Advertiser’ in Gippsland, Victoria. Previously the only double-width systems had been those using Insert UV (nitrogen-enclosed) systems such as those at Herold in Vienna and ‘Le Monde’ in Paris, which use InnoCure technology. Prime’s air-cooled UV dryers are designed to cure UV inks at speeds from 25,000 to 90,000. Midlik says the process is also gaining ‘green’ recognition as VOCs are eliminated, along with the requirement for natural gas, decreasing the carbon footprint of the printing operation. • Pictured: A Prime UV system on a Global Web single-width press
