A new version of Agfa's Apogee workflow which automates all prepress tasks is a "major step forward in production efficiency", according to the company's Erik Peeters.

The new v11 release also includes multi-product support and integration with PressTune as part of Agfa's ECO³ "market approach".

Peeters, who is Agfa's global marketing manager for software solutions, says the new release looks beyond pure functionalities and "takes the full production cycle into account".

It also combines with the company's cloud-based automation solution, PrintSphere AutoPilot, using XML or JDF information to route orders to the appropriate devices, and updates the WebApproval online portal for file upload and page approval. A 'guest' function makes it easier to offer the service to one-time users.

A new module gives access to prepress job data, making it easy to check job status and other detail. "Whether you are on the road or sitting in your couch with a tablet, you can track jobs anytime, anywhere," says Peeters.

Apogee was the first workflow to use Adobe's PDF as a production file format, more than 20 years ago, and the new version takes advantage of the latest Print Engine version 5 and PDF 2.0 print features.

Apogee v11 will be available from October 22, both as on-premise and cloud versions.
