Singapore Press Holdings is switching to violet CTP to create what is being billed as “one of the largest single newspaper digital prepress sites in the world”. The order goes to Agfa Graphics, which will supply N92v plates for two years as well as ten high-speed Polaris XCV-S with automated Glünz & Jensen punch benders and online central stacking. SPH executive vice-president of production Anthony Cheng says he has been convinced of Agfa's commitment to long term technical support: “In selecting the provider, we have in place a rigorous and elaborate evaluation process to assess the merits of competing offers from established vendors,” he says. Agfa met exacting requirements and offered “the best solution and value” for the major project. The SPH Print Centre in Singapore’s Jurong Road houses four KBA Commander press lines and four recently-upgraded Goss Colorliner lines in adjacent press halls. The new computer-to-plate system replaces existing film-based systems. Producing 17 newspaper titles in four languages, the plant has one of the industry’s most complex operations. “In addition, SPH's requirements in terms of high print quality, efficiency and support are well-known," Tim Van den Bossche, Agfa’s Asia president says. "Being selected by SPH as partner in this growth region is an honour and a proof that our strategy, based on technology and cost leadership, works".
