UV curing and a specially-designed Jardis ribbon folder have added flexibility to a new Tensor press installation for an insert and newspaper printer. The new and highly-automated two-tower Tensor T-400BE semicommercial set-up is at Goldenstar de Mexico in Culiacan, Sinaloa, where production versatility and exemplary hybrid performance were major factors. The single-width T-400BE has 1000 mm web width with an H-50 folder two Prime UV systems to cure super-calendered stock webs on each tower. The Jardis ribbon decks positioned above the folder can slit each web and realign the ribbons on the press centre prior to former folding, and allow a six-page broadsheet or a 12-page tabloid to be produced from each web. They can also slit the web into thirds, bypassing the former for tabloid production. The press units are heavily loaded for 40,000 cph speed, with components to ensure print accuracy at high speed. The DRCS automatic register guidance and cutoff system is controlled at the Swedish-manufactured DCOS press console. Water-cooled vibrator rollers and oil cooling systems on the gears of the printing units facilitate continuous high speed production. Jardis FSS zero-speed splicers feed the two press towers. The Tensor H-50 folder has cross and ring perforation capabilities and is designed to incorporate a future stitcher. It is accompanied by a quarterfolder for specialty advertisement jobs. Goldenstar de Mexico is one of the top commercial printing and converting businesses in the northwest of Mexico. While its main focus had always been in continuous business forms, POS rolls and labels, the new press considerably boosts its capabilities by diversifying into four-colour, UV-cured supermarket and department store advertising inserts and newspaper work. Goldenstar's operations manager says customers will be “very satisfied” with the quality.
