Quad’s direct-mail Sunday: It’s hush-hush

US contract printer Quad/Graphics is buying a new Goss Sunday 2000 web press for its direct mail plant, but despite an announcement by the maker, Quad doesn’t want you to know the details. The six-unit press will feature a “unique cut-off and web width”… but when GXpress asked what was unique about them, Quad’s Clair Ho said the company was “not inclined to reveal the cutoff and web width at this time”. The press goes into the newly renovated QuadDirect headquarters in Pewaukee, Wisconsin this summer. Goss will supply a Contiweb CS splicer and an Ecocool dryer with the press system, which says Quad/Graphics will use to produce direct mail and specialty products. It will replace older technology that will be taken out of service. “We continuously invest in new press technology across our facilities to make sure our customers have access to the most productive and efficient platforms available,” Quad vice president of press operations Tim Sands told Goss. “The addition of this new press gives us one of the most robust, innovative platforms in the direct mail industry to support our clients’ continued focus on targeted communications.” Apparently Quad/Graphics currently operates more than 25 Sunday presses at its web offset production facilities throughout the US. But if you want to know more about this one, you might have to wait…
