QI Press Controls has responded to the US patent action against it by Quad/Tech, and says it will oppose the expansion of claims to include its IRS register control system and IDS closed loop colour density control.
Chairman Menno Jansen says the company will vindicate itself in court and has asked industry partners to “patiently await the court’s decision”.
In a statement this week, QI says Quad/Tech had not implemented the patent at the heart of its June 2009 case (US patent 5412577) into a commercially available colour-to-colour registration system which operated without registration marks at the time of the lawsuit. Quad/Tech had claimed QI’s ‘markless’ register system – shown at DRUPA 2008 – infringes that patent.
QI says its response had been that the products sold or offered in the did not infringe the patent, as it didn’t sell a ‘markless’ system in the US and those it did sell couldn’t operate in a ‘markless’ manner.
“QIPC intends to vigorously defend itself against Quad/Tech’s claims and vindicate itself in Court,” says Jansen.
