Up-and-comers wanting to advance their careers through INMA’s Elevate Scholarships need to get their applications in now.
The programme – supported by the Google News Initiative – provides a scholarship to accelerate learnings for professionals from under-represented groups who are committed to growing the news business and aspire to global best practices.
The scholarship aims to strengthen the future of the news business by embracing and elevating historically under-represented and disadvantaged groups below the senior management level at news media companies.
Removing obstacles for equitable inclusion in news industry training and development can shatter the glass ceiling for professionals from under-represented groups, which hampers innovation and the future of news media.
Diversity and inclusion are integral for next-generation news media growth, with the business of news media jeopardised without novel ideas and innovation from a range of perspectives that represent the communities it serves – ethnicities, genders, ages, sexual orientations, religions, disabilities, access to higher education and more.
To be considered for an Elevate Scholarship, you must be employed by a news media company in a position below senior management, and have been in the business of news media for less than 15 years. These positions might include marketing coordinators, writers, web developers, designers, event coordinators, public relations heads, data developers and many others.
You must be under 45, and aspire to become a top manager at a news media company. You must also be part of an under-represented and disadvantaged group within your country, and special consideration of the national context of under-representation and the barriers to overcome will be given in the prioritisation process.
There is no application fee, but applications must be in by September 24. For more details, see the website
